Al Malers

Al Malers is the pen name of an author whose e-mail address has the country designation “.ru” and who writes English with advanced proficiency — a difficult achievement!

“Memories on a Bird” was originally published in Russian and followed a jazz melody in rhythm and composition. The music has probably been lost in translation, which — translators will admit — comes as no surprise.

However, editors and review readers will surely appreciate the moral of the story, which is explained in the final scene or “coda.” The explanation implies a challenge to all viewers of art and readers of literature: “What does this mean to you?” It also reveals indirectly why an important character has the somewhat elegant French name “Mathieu” but is also addressed by the sobriquet “Cigarette Butt.”
