Bewildering Stories biography

[Editor’s note] “Memories on a Bird,” the author’s first submission to Bewildering Stories, was accompanied not by a “bio sketch” but by an interesting account of the story’s origin and publication history. We hasten to congratulate the author on the quality of the expression in English!

Thank you for the opportunity to share one of my short stories with your journal; it is called “Memories on a Bird.” I am a writer from Russia — Al Malers is my pen name — and English is not my first language. Therefore, any corrections and edits are welcome and will be much appreciated.

As for the story itself, it is mostly based on the concept “death of the author,” which is that authors' or artists' views of their works are no more important than interpretations by readers or viewers. The story is part of my collection of short stories and novellas, which was published in Russian on online reading platforms and received favorable reviews. However, at some point, the publisher closed its online department, withdrew all the publications and returned the rights to the authors.

I translated the story into English myself, and it was not so easy because it was intended to copy a jazz melody rhythmically and compositionally. Again, I will be grateful for any criticism or suggestions for improvement.
