Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Steven Lebow
Steven Lebow is a rabbi who has been the leading advocate for a man wrongfully convicted in Georgia in 1915. Steven’s life and work have been widely profiled in national newspapers and media.
“The Path of Life in Space” is a short story that will surely perplex readers with its premise: the colonization of Mars. The story implicitly raises the question: how can interplanetary colonization possibly be achieved?
On Earth, many different peoples colonized distant islands or continents by sending families. But the project described in “The Path of Life in Space” doesn’t do that; it deliberately splits up married couples, which proves to be a Very Bad Idea. As a consequence, the project’s conception and design constitute a Formula for Disaster.
Bewildering Stories has a thorough discussion of human colonization, which concludes with: Space Colonies: the Dark Side. Steven Lebow’s story adds one more hazard sign to the collection, which tells Earthlings: “Look before you leap.”
