Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Theresa Konwinski
Theresa lives in Holland, Ohio. She holds a doctoral degree in Nursing Practice and maintains her nursing license after 46 years in the profession. Theresa loves quilting, gardening and, especially reading. To date, she has published one short story, in a crime fiction anthology.
“Leaving Hedges” will resonate especially among young adults and especially among those living in small-town America. Readers will sympathize with Helen, who is embarking on her teenage years, and with her parents, who provide solid role models for her.
Helen is up against a closed society, one aptly symbolized by the well-maintained hedges surrounding each citizen’s property. And in the year 1943, the citizenry seem not even to have heard of the news that grips the rest of the country, namely World War II. Or, far worse, perhaps they have heard of it... and don’t care. Will Helen ultimaely leave Hedges? Of course she will; she must. In this story, we see how her departure begins.
