Millicent Eidson

Her Maya Maguire microbial mysteries and drama have won awards.
“Not a Normal Holiday” requires attentive readers. And that is precisely the point: only such readers will realize that the story is alternate history. And only perceptive readers will understand that the relatively minor changes it depicts in 20th-century history challenge readers to choose the world they want to live in.
In the alternate timeline, some readers will say that the narrator’s loss of husband, son and daughter are, if not exactly “normal,” at least expectable, And some will say they’re even deserved. Be warned: the alternate world is not so far away.
