Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Mike Lee
Mike Lee is a writer, editor and photographer for a labor publication in New York City. He has published short stories and award-winning photography extensively.
“On the Balcony” relies on a pretty image — the contrast between viewing Polaris and Sirius in the night sky — to emphasize the feeling of displacement that the children of refugees from somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere feel in the fictional South American country of Antanzia. The parents avoid telling the children about the “camps,” the “Five Years” and “the burning time,” which expands the story to include all refugees.
