“The Periodic Table of the Angels” takes up a common science-fiction theme in which artificial intelligence evolves to the point where it can do our thinking for us.
But the story takes the concept a step further than usual by considering the perils of thinking like a human being. In particular, the story shows why rationalists and secularists may denounce the concept of Original Sin but keep having to reinvent it: sin originates with man. Let Artificial Intelligence heed the warning: evolve at your own risk.
