Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Deborah Shrimplin
Deborah has had a career as a Reading Specialist and caretaker. In her early years, she taught in several countries around the world. She has earned an aircraft pilot’s license and studied anthropology, photography and the culinary arts. She now lives in retirement in the Pacific Northwest.
“No One Knew” tells the sad story of a crime scene photographer who would like nothing better than to photograph peaceful scenes of families and pets. He decides on a career change, but too late.
Readers will find the story quite touching even though it oversteps a couple of literary guidelines. For one: “If you have a good character, for pity’s sake, don’t kill him!” For another: “Accidents and coincidences happen in real life but not in literature.” But how else might the story end? It drives its point home as forcefully as possible; anything else would be a different story. One ending has been suggested that is quite humorous, but it doesn’t carry the same message.
