None had advised him how to jump tree-tops, None had said he would tumble free through clouds, None had talked about coral rainbow slides, None had warned against stupendous sound waves, None had thrilled about star-beamed tarpaulin, None had sent stubs for star-filled orchestras, * * * None had warned about roving nebulae, None had marvelled at birth of galaxies, None had disclosed by comets he’d be shot, None had exposed new colours, curly songs, None had whispered of how heart stars are born, None had delineated vast cupolas, * * * Such freedom of spirit, none could have guessed, * [Author’s note] One can imagine that, after his last few torturous months, Keats’s spirit lightens up and is having a jaunt through the cosmos. |
