Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Mira Spindler
Mira lives in Brooklyn. She is a former professor of literature and has published two books of non-fiction as well as columns of opinion and commentary for prestigious publications.
“Old Pointy Bones and Big Ears” seems to qualify as a horror story. The two neighbor ladies ooze bad vibes. The dogs they take for daily walks are regular monsters and almost alter egos. In fact, one of them might be a two-headed version of Cerberus.
Writers who would like lessons in creating atmospheres of oppressive isolation will do well to study this story closely. But the ending is hopeful; it suggests that isolation may not be “the end.”
