Jeremy Luke Hill

Luke, as he prefers to be called, is the publisher at Vocamus Press, which features the literary culture of Guelph, Ontario. As Managing Director of Friends of Vocamus Press, he organizes frequent seminars and workshops for the Guelph book culture.

Luke has written chldren’s fantasy and poetry, including a chapbook of poetry and photography, Island Pieces. He has also edited an edition of G. K. Chesterton’s Napoleon of Notting Hill. His poetry and literary criticism appears in various literary journals.

“Neve” is bound to impress readers as both charming and mysterious. We first meet Jack, a woodsman artist who specializes in carving what appear to be modern totem poles. Jack is quite content living alone but, one day, his solitude is interrupted by a visitor, Neve. She is anything but solitary, and she is quite forward in suggesting a... relationship. What’s a lone artist of few words to do? Both Jack and the readers are left with a lot to think about.

There’s a charm hiding in plain sight in the story. The prose is very carefully done, with subtle shadings of emphasis and meaning that will well repay rereading and study.
