Down the Rue de la Paix

by Marjorie Sadin

Down the Rue de la Paix, peaceful street, was our hotel.
Shootings and bombings dominated the news.

We followed the crooked streets to the Picasso Museum
and to Père Lachaise Cemetery
almost hearing Chopin’s preludes.

The Saint-Sulpice and Notre Dame stood solemn
with stained glass and organ music.
The wine, the bread, the Parisians pleasured us.

We made love in Paris,
never to return.
