Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Matthew Laing
Matthew lives in Ottawa and has studied history and political science at the University. He’s avidly interested in history and folklore as well as fantasy and science fiction.
“Fire Flight” is a poem in epic mode. A horse and rider flee a forest fire, perhaps like those that have devastated the Canadian northwest this year. The ending is tragic but, to some extent, hopeful.
Readers will surely want more. How did the fire start? Where is the narrator going? But if the poem is read as a kind of companion piece to Danielle L. Parker’s combination essay and news report “In the Fire Zone,” at least one meaning becomes quite clear.
Matthew Laing’s bio sketch can be found here.
Welcome to Bewildering Stories, Matthew. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
