Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Dylan Henderson
Dylan lives in the Cherokee Nation. He has advanced degrees in history, literature and library science.
“The Room Upstairs” is a story written in the style of H. P. Lovecraft. A professor who has been defrocked, so to speak, sets up a publishing house in a small town. His office is located near an old house occupied by an old widow who complains of hearing strange noises above her bedroom.
The house and lady are not horrific so much as unpleasant: smelly and decrepit. The narrator eventually solves the mystery of the strange noises, and readers may draw their own conclusions about the mystery and the analogies it may have with the narrator’s own life.
