Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Daniel Finkel
Daniel is from the Philadelphia area. He’s published several short stories and poems, and he works as fiction and copy editor at two local journals. He’s currently working on a fantasy novel.
“The Memory Machine” has a somewhat ambiguous title. It refers to a camera that has a magical lens. The lens functcions normally in one way: it can take record shots of people and thereby preserve a visual memory of them. But, at the same time, the lens functions quite abnormally in another way. And that way is very sinister indeed.
The story may well serve as a springboard to a larger story, one that includes not only the point of view of the photographer but also that of the subjects and, very likely, the police or even the FBI. And take the premise to its logical conclusion: what would happen if the lens were mounted on a camera in a satellite orbiting Earth?
