Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Kochava Greene
Kochava’s name is pronounced like “koc’hava.” She is an editor who has worked on books and multimedia projects, e.g. textooks, fantasy novels, literary criticism and on-line learning.
“Incident at St. Laurita’s” might be classified as “feminist steampunk.” Why “steampunk”? Because it takes place on Earth in an alternate universe at some time in an indefinite but recent past. We recognize the place names, but the places themselves do not resemble very much those we know in our world.
Why “feminist”? Well, why not? The characters are almost all women. And one has to admire the resourcefulness of Mother Angelita, Sister Amelia and their friends. It’s a valuable lesson in story writing: many deft touches show us how female characters can do things that males normally don’t do. And they can do things men normally do, as well, such as stomp mutant crabs!
We would love to read further adventures of Sister Amelia and her friends!
