Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Keith Frady
Keith writes short stories and lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
“The Dragon Said to the Knight” gives a retwist to a modern subgenre, the “twisted fairytale.” In the classic tale, a knight defeats a dragon and rescues a princess. In the “twisted” fairytale, there is no dragon, and the princess rejects the knight or prince, who is a hapless, farcical figure.
In the “retwisted” fairytale, the dragon rescues princesses languishing in their towers, treats them kindly, and engages a series of knights — the last of whom is female — in polite literary discussions. One suspects that the dragon still eats them, but a good time is had by all nonetheless.
