Stacey Margaret Jones

Stacey has a degree in Elementary Education and English from Northern State University, in South Dakota, as well as a degree in Communications Management from Syracuse University. She’s currently enrolled in the Arkansas Writers MFA program at the University of Central Arkansas. Stacey also works as an independent market researcher.

Stacey has published poetry in literary journals and won awards as a columnist for the Knight-Ridder newspapers. She is currently a columnist for Sporting Life Arkansas and other publications.

“Stay Put, Herr Kafka” takes the form of a “frame” story, a style popular in the 19th century and still in use today. “Stay Put, Herr Kafka” is a good model of the genre, because the embedded story affects directly the story in the opening and closing “frames.”

In the embedded story, a literature professor recounts her reaction — understandably eerie — to the works of Franz Kafka. She visits Kafka’s gravesite and places on it a stone, with an incantation that should free her from Kafka’s influence. But readers may wonder whether the spell really works and whether the spirit of Franz Kafka doesn’t return to haunt the story we have.
