Mark Jones

Mark is a professor of English at Trinity College, in Illinois. He has taught courses on Arthurian literature, Shakespeare and Linguistics. He also enjoys Japanese visual culture, H. P. Lovecraft, and playing jazz on the piano. He has published in literary journals.

“Double Feature” will intrigue readers by its mystery. Apparently the action begins as a movie ends. In fact, a Review Editor says that the poem is reminiscent of Edward Hopper’s painting, New York Movie.

As in the poem, the film itself is of no interest. The usherette is not a redhead or leprechaun but a blonde. Rather, she might be a movie star, and her pensive pose makes the viewer wonder what she might be thinking. In that way, at least, the painting and poem coincide.
