Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Jo Wharton Heath
Jo lives with her husband near Auburn, Alabama, where she was a professor of Mathematics. Now she has turned to writing and has published short stories and a novel.
Jo has also very kindly helped your Managing Editor simplify the Hot Potatoes. The gist is that it’s okay to go by standard deviation alone rather than the somewhat fancier arithmetic I‘d been using. Thanks, Jo, that is a relief! If I come up with anything else, you’ll be the first I ask. But I’m afraid that I’m among those who think math is “pretty” and would not be one of your top students.
“Will Rogers’ Wish” is a story that has the unusual virtue of being both charming and disconcerting at the same time. What if you attended your own funeral as a ghost and found that the best anyone could say about you was that you were “hardworking”? Talk about being damned with faint praise!
Well, in this story, the ghost fulfills Will Rogers’ wish: he discovers that he actually has gone to Heaven with his pet dog Scout. He has someone he loves and who loves him. Now what’s better than that?

Welcome to Bewildering Stories, Jo. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
