Martin Bayne

Martin says he’s been a journalist, paramedic, Soto Zen Buddhist monk, and MIT scholar. He has a literary journal that “showcases sexagenerians and their elders.” He’s published extensively.

“Exoskeletons in the Closet” has a humorous title, and the story itself starts in a friendly sort of way. But the plot soon turns to grisly horror when the hero leanrs that a parasite exerts emotional control over its victims and absorbs them more thoroughly than the wasp-like creature in the film Alien.

The story raises a lot of questions, such as: Why does Joel prefer to pick on orphans among many “vulnerable” people he could choose? Who are the Jensens, what are they doing in the story, and what becomes of them? Can the hero give Joel a “kiss of death” without poisoning himself first? But the characters are well drawn and will carry readers from one spooky scene to the next.
