Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Chuck Moss
Chuck is from Euclid, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. He works for the U.S. government as a financial specialist.
“The Courteous Ghost” is a humorous little poem about a ghost who declines to haunt a family that has just moved into his house. No white sheets or clanking chains for this ghost; he’s going to mind his manners.
And that is curious. Ghosts always have a mission: to accomplish in death what they could not do in life. Was the ghost such a tiresome pest in his previous existence that his own family did away with him? Has he resolved, Hippocratically, to “do no harm” to the newcomers? Or perhaps we are all observed by ghosts who shake their heads in dismay or stifle giggles in polite silence.
