Belatedness

by Thomas R.

She came home
To this age dead at her birth
But in her heart always
The time where snow still fell

Men here had not gained telepathy
Women had not lost the vote
Children did not live in drug induced haze
You could even still hear a Church bell

So she grew comfortable there
In this primitive free land
Where she could achieve like never before
And finally have a life her own

Soon she found projects worth her care
Research few could understand
Memory aids for the mind
To help those in distress

Ironic that those began the mess
Creating the warping of mankind
Infecting males across the land
Using the new powers in ways unfair

A woman hears of days before that age
When males had no right to gloat
Where women could still vote
Living lives outside their proverbial cage

She never knew it, but she knows she must
Return to that true home
Someday
She knew in herself she could trust
