Scott Coon

Scott lives west of Philadelphia and works as a computer programmer for a bank. He has previous experience as an electronics warfare signals analyst for the U.S. Army. He has published works in several magazines and e-zines.

“The Laughing Bombs” is, on the surface combat science fiction, where a near-future bomber pilot has to deal with telepathic software run amok and with a little girl who survives by imitating the peculiar laughter his bombs emit as they fall. Shot down and captured, the pilot escapes with the girl into a surreal labyrinth. At the end, the pilot’s uncle begins a “debriefing” that, one may surmise, will be a form of psychotherapy.

“Laughing Bombs” recalls our motto “There is no story so truly bewildering as reality.” Give it close attention and the reality will begin to emerge and the story will grow on you. The clincher may be: “How the hell am I supposed to raise a little kid when I’m out dropping bombs every two hours?”
