“Cyber Power” is an example of Sandra’s work in a genre in which she excels: flash fiction. The story has the merit of recounting a series of events that imply a larger story, namely the social isolation of Tom’s father, Edward, and its consequences.

Tom really did need to talk to his well-meaning but innocent father and to help him understand Internet culture. However, one can sympathize with Tom, as well: it’s difficult for a child to instruct a parent without seeming presumptuous.

The story also raises other questions, such as: Suppose “Edward” were “Emma,” Tom’s mother? What would she do in the same circumstances? In the guise of dark humour, “Cyber Power” exposes some cyber weaknesses.
