Bewildering Stories welcomes...
K. C. Gray
K. C. recently graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with an MFA degree in Creative Writing. She was an editor and production manager for her degree program’s literary journal.
“Horse Men” is an early story of K.C.’s, and we hope she’ll send us more. Like Rebecca L. Brown’s “A Beautiful Lie,” also in this issue, it depicts a mental condition or emotional state, but with symbolism taken more from fantasy than from science fiction.
The story itself is something of a puzzle that is bound to intrigue readers: where do the centaur-like creatures come from, and why does Toya see them at first as a mortal danger to herself and her friends? At the end, does Toya find a resolution, and if so, what is it?
Finally, does the story come too close to Bewildering Stories’ official guideline against works that say literally or in effect “But it was all a dream”? Clues abound for readers’ interpretation, and a discussion would surely be of great interest to everyone.
K. C. Gray’s bio sketch can be found here.
Welcome to Bewildering Stories, K. C.. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
