David works as a newspaperman in eastern Wisconsin, somewhere between Milwaukee and Green Bay. His preference is for dark fiction, and his short stories have attracted notice.

“This Gated Community” is a Kafkaesque mood piece in which Jonathan Dunne adapts comfortably to life in a totalitarian society; he sees everything but understands nothing. He’s not alarmed by the continual and unaccountable arrests of various residents, and he doesn’t realize that the walls and gates exist not only literally, surrounding the community, but also virtually, walling off the residents from each other.
