Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Alexei Russell
Alexei lives in Winnipeg. He says he’s tried his hand at all genres but Westerns, which he hopes to get around to. He’s published in print and has a presence on the Net, including audio stories.
“Teak’s Prizefighter” is a little unusual in that it begins at the end. The result is a kind of classic tragedy, where ‘Hitman Hollis’ goes to a foreordained doom. His tragic flaw is, of course, the hubris of letting a small-time con man and gambler persuade him to take the leap into championship boxing even though Hollis’ agent knows he is not yet ready.
The moral is that good intentions may have an opposite effect unless they’re supported by cool self-assessment and realistic planning.
