Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Andrew Cochrane
Andrew does not quite set the record as our youngest contributor; he may tie the record that was held briefly by Kristen Tracey, but it was exceeded by Kate Allen at age 14. Nonetheless, Andrew has a good start: he began writing short stories and poetry at age 15 and is now planning to go to university. He says his literary inspirations are too numerous to mention. That’s also an excellent start!
“Watching the Twilight” makes economical use of the unity of place: the action transpires entirely at George’s house. The plotting depends on an “unreliable narrator,” and the characterization is very carefully done. At the end, we realize that George was right to hate his father and, perhaps, to despise his mother for embracing her status as a victim. Finally, we wonder what will happen to George now that he has proved himself to be worse than either of them.
