Watching Eras Slip By

by Thomas R.

It came upon a stone age night
To listen, learn, and understand
This mission it must do right

An age of bronze saw its curiosity fanned
With the dawn of writing and empires
Whose dreams grew both horrid and grand

Then the visions of iron and fires
Of joys and tears
The innocence soon expires

Industrialization then calmed and created fears
New wonders are born while old wonders die
Its hope rose during these years

So now at last they reach the starry sky
Reaching far beyond their world of birth
This means it must bid them good bye

To return to the people of Earth
