Marina Julia Neary

Marina’s bio is not to be missed. I’d summarize it, but you wouldn’t believe me; you’d best see it for yourself. The photos’ wide range of poses emphasize Marina’s vocation as a model, stage and film actress, dancer, and choreographer. In writing, she has published poetry, essays, journalism, and literature for the theater.

There must be something to the legend that anyone who grows up speaking Russian will find other languages a piece of cake. Marina has added English, French, and Spanish to her repertoire.

And her early experience has given her perspectives that may seem out of the ordinary for many. They come, in their own way, as a provocative breath of fresh air in a time of cultural change and confusion. Suffice it to say here that her opinion on her role as a woman must be read in the light of her accomplishments.

After reading Marina’s bio sketch, we’ll all surely come to the same conclusion about her self-portrait as a “fragile, dumb brunette.” Brunette, if you say so; fragile, doubtful; dumb, no way!

“How Am I Gonna Play Guitar Now?” is listed as a dramatized memoir. It’s somewhat like Gabriel Timar’s The World Is a Jungle, which is serialized intermittently in Bewildering Stories. The story in “Guitar” is set in Soviet-era Belorus, but as you progress, you realize it’s not limited to that locale and might take place elsewhere, as well. Even more importantly, the reader soon comes to care for the sad and funny people in it.
