“The Auctioneer’s Prize” is set on a planet far from Earth. One of the inhabitants’ major sources of revenue is a kind of cattle market, where semi-sentient beings from alien planets are sold for their specialized abilities. Not everyone agrees that the trade is ethical, especially when the auction is revealed for what it is: a slave market. And its prospective bonanza is trafficking in human beings.
