Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Yuvi Zalkow
Yuvi lives in Portland, Oregon and is working on an MFA degree at Antioch University. He’s completed a novel and a collection of short stories.
“Men Are From Mars, JoLans Are From Uranus” is quite an original story in form: it begins and is interspersed with the author’s metacommentary. It’s certain to drive readers nuts who are sticklers for orthodox rules on point of view.
We at Bewildering Stories, though, find the ironic layering intriguing. At one level we hear the author; at another, the hero as he really is; at yet another, the hero as he occasionally imagines himself; and then the hero’s estranged wife as she really is; and finally the wife as an omnipotent space-alien monkey — or JoLan — on Uranus, which is really a café.
That summary, fascinating as it is, does not begin to match the story itself. Prepare to be truly Bewildered, in the best sense of the term!
