Humpback Dreams
by Katherine L. Michaels
The whales lose themselves in their undersea dance
Touch and glide, weaving in, up and out...
I’ll dream about this when I get the chance.
One swims past, a great lazy eye throws me a glance,
A smile on that beautiful huge snout...
The whales lose themselves in their undersea dance.
I wonder, is this their show of romance?
Or a form of religion, each one so devout?
I’ll dream about this when I get the chance.
The calves play along with their own little prance,
I laugh with delight when some surface to spout.
The whales lose themselves in their undersea dance.
Their twisting and turning puts me into a trance
I wish they’d continue along our route.
I’ll dream about this when I get the chance.
The pod flows away, envy cuts like a lance.
I whisper ‘Goodbye’, though I want to shout.
The whales lose themselves in their undersea dance;
I’ll dream about this when I get the chance.
