Joanie lives in West Virginia, where she’s working on a novel and blogging about writing.

“The Betrayed” depicts a group of people on a train taking them to what amounts to a gulag. They are betrayed by the society that has condemned and by a fellow traveler. But the subtext of the story is the most interesting part: all the prisoners are being exiled for having done much the same thing.
