Elliot Richard Dorfman

Elliot has had a long and varied career in teaching theater arts and music. He’s had his own off-Broadway theatrical repertory company, and has written for radio, TV, and the stage. Now retired, he writes short stories and poetry.

By its form, “No Other Choice” might have been written for television: the scene-setting might be stage directions, and the dialogue carries almost all the action. The two-layer story — ordinary reality complemented by an illusion imposed by space aliens — is strongly reminiscent of Twilight Zone fare.

The main difference: “No Other Choice” is pessimistic. Although a few Twilight Zone stories also used the the time-honored science fiction theme “We’re property,” most of its productions were typically upbeat, comic, or cautionary tales.
