Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Steve Thorn
With a large family, several jobs, and a very popular blog, Steve still finds time to write a novel. He says he also keeps eight short stories in the mail at all times — just to have something to do, I guess. One thing I doubt he does do: sleep. And he must be one of the crack typists of all time.
“A Ceiling Full of Stars” is very much a family drama, but the family is not a large one at all, especially since the wife and mother is away on the battle front as a commander in Earth’s space navy.
The story has a triple interest. First, we have gender role shifting: only women, not men, can go into combat against a very strange enemy from another star. Second, the father has to act as both parents at once for their son. Finally, the story provides a model of the opposite of sentimentality: the action has plenty of emotion, but none of it is external; it’s all earned.

Welcome to Bewildering Stories, Steve. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
