Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Louise Norlie
Louise has published fiction and non-fiction in many different places. We really need to seek them out for link exchanges...
“Sergeant Malvern,” in this issue, is Louise’s first contribution. It’s interesting at more than one level of interpretation. The ghost of Sergeant Malvern recalls an incident of a kind that acquired a special name in Vietnam: “fragging,” something that must now be a required topic in leadership courses. The ghost also haunts a generation for whom war had honor and a reason for self-sacrifice that other wars have not. And the ghost brings home to the narrator that one does not make war a hobby with idle dreams of glory.
