Poltergeist

by Mary King

The mirror at midnight falls
Strange noises fill the halls
I’m wide awake for heaven’s sake
The very thought appalls!

My glasses fly through the air
The tv starts to blare
I jump from bed
and bump my head
A voice calls out “Beware!”

Outside a coyote howls
From downstairs something growls
I cry “Who’s there?”
as loud as I dare
(I’m sure it isn’t owls!)

The lights blink off and on
Strange chanting on the lawn
A bat flies by
(I wonder why?)
If only it were dawn!

The night begins to end
My nerves are on the mend
A voice shouts out,
“Without a doubt,
We’ll meet again, my friend!”
