Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Sarah Das Gupta
Sarah is originally from Cambridge, England but has lived for many years in Kolkata, India. A recent accident has made it difficult for her to walk, but she is gradually recovering and finds it therapeutic to begin a writing career at age 81.
“Twelve Beans” owes its title to hightly profitable vegetation perhaps much like the opium grown and traded in southern Asia. Readers will recognize a choice of colonial empires and people in various condiions of slavery in the historical period ranging from the 19th century to today. And readers will want more. They are very likely to consider “Twelve Beans” an intermediate chapter in a larger story. Much has already happened and the ending promises more to come.
