Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Mazin Saleem
Mazin is originally from Manchester, UK but is now based in London. He writes novels and essays as well as book and film critiques for various publications.
“Murphy’s Lore” is a four-part serial that concludes in issue 1015 but is complete on line as of issue 1014.
Murphy’s Law, as it’s commonly known, says that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Corollaries abound. Bewildering Stories’ version, for example, says that interruptions increase exponentially in proportion to the urgency of the task at hand. Freely translated, it seems to mean that something that must be done right away probably can’t be done right away.
The narrator in “Murphy’s Lore” seems to experience a version of the BwS corollary. Every reported change in Eddie Murphy’s film career seems to cause a change in the narrator’s own life. Interruptions do increase exponentially, after all.
