Part V : Citation of Merit
With this Quarterly Review the Citation of Merit goes into honorable retirement. The Citation of Merit served well in previous Quarterly Reviews to honor the crème de la crème, as our publisher Jerry Wright aptly calls it. But the “quality explosion” at Bewildering Stories has continued apace, and the editors now find themselves happily unable to pick the best of the best. A selection of ten works would be arbitrary and unrepresentative. The top ten percent would also be arbitrary and would simply duplicate a lot of what is already cited in the Review. This Quarterly Review, then, is itself the Citation of Merit and the crème de la crème. What the “best” of that is, we leave to the readers. We of Bewildering Stories extend our congratulations to all who are represented here. We also offer our gratitude to all contributors whose works have appeared in our issues in the past quarter. We hope that new and veteran contributors alike will take inspiration from them! |
Part VI : The Order of the Hot Potato
And now, since “Bewildering” Stories is a friend of the unconventional, here are the twelve most controversial works of the spring quarter, the ones on which the review editors did not reach a consensus for one reason or another. The titles are listed in descending order, with the most controversial first. Links are given to the issues in which they appear.
